Born to Ride

Walking into the living room of Sue McMurray’s traditional style farmhouse, the first thing that draws your eye is a large framed image of a group of horses hung over the fireplace mantle. “Do you see Jake in my picture?” Sue asks. As I look at the framed horses, I realize what Sue means. The middle horse bears an astonishing resemblance to Sue’s dun AQHA gelding, Jake. Sue and Jake have been together for three years now, and Jake fits into Sue’s life as pretty as a picture. The pair are the 2013 MM Versatility Buckle winners.

Hello Barn Buddies!

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season! I know that my family did. Now with the hustle and bustle behind us, we “horse crazy” folks get to think ahead to spring! I love this time of the year! I love planning for the New Year, reflecting back on the previous year and that is exactly what the team at MM Training has been doing. Last year was a year of many new beginnings for our barn. We launched two new programs: Jessi Club and Barn Rats.

Not Your Average Joe

Joe Harrison is a great example of how an “occasional” horseman can develop into a champion. As a kid growing up in Walla Walla, Washington, Joe had very little supervision when working with horses, and no training. He admits that most of his experiences ended awkwardly for both him and the horse. Despite these setbacks, Joe’s inner desire to connect with and love animals survived.

Bringing Up Baby: From Heartache to High Point

Alyssa Miller, 17, and LTH Dee Bar Quincy (Cierra), 4, make equitation patterns look easy, trail obstacles a cakewalk and showmanship no sweat. The pair was a formidable team in the north Idaho open shows last summer and won the 2009 MM Training and Consulting Versatility Award Competition belt buckle. Alyssa does all of Cierra’s training herself, which made the victory sweeter.
